Good Morning Arthur...
As I am just north of you sometimes we have the same types of weather. Any wood that I keep and store in the round I store under my house on blocks and green wood that I rip and then store I also put under my house but on blocks and then stickers. My house is built on pilings or piers and is skirted so I have all this open space, about 4' from ground to plywood covered joists. I have ventilation so there is, at times, a nice draft flowing. No sunlight or light at all. I had put some red cedar, yellow cedar, spruce and hemlock under there about 10 years ago and it's just as bright, but now dry, as the day I put them under there. Rule of thumb, 1 year to dry for every inch of thickness. You want to keep as even temperatures as possible and nothing very hot. If your garage is not heated that might be ok but maybe keep direct sunlight away from it. Hope this helps.....
Best Regards,
Steve

This past year I have gotten into chain saw carving, I'm not very good at it yet but practice practice practice right. I have friends who had to take down a maple tree and I got most of the wood, I had them cut into 24" to 6' length for carving later. How should I store this wood so it won't deteriorate and check to bad? I painted the ended to seal them but where should I store them, outside or garage?
Any help would be great.
Arthur
