Thanks to everyone for the input. I'll finish painting the ends to seal and
haul the wood to my coast home where the garage is not heated and store some
of it in the garage and some of it in a unheated shed there.

May have to drill some holes in a few of the shorter pieces, just can't pass
up free wood.

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

The best place to store those logs is out of the weather in an unheated
area. If you have an unheated shed that would work best.

If you drill a hole down through the center it will help relieve the stress
and cut the drying time in half. You will not be able to eliminate checking
but the hole will help by relieving some of the stress.

This past year I have gotten into chain saw carving, I'm not very good at it
yet but practice practice practice right. I have friends who had to take
down a maple tree and I got most of the wood, I had them cut into 24" to 6'
length for carving later. How should I store this wood so it won't deteriorate
and check to bad? I painted the ended to seal them but where should I store
them, outside or garage?

Any help would be great.
