Gentle Carvers:

I've just today finished the 9th Station of the 14-carving series call
"Stations of the cross". This one is titled "#9 Jesus falls the third
time".

It is posted to the following site:
http://www.wwwoodcarver.com/StationsOfTheCross/Stations_of_the_Cross.html#8

This particular carving required some really tricky perspective in
very shallow relief. Keep in mind that the total depth of the actual
carving is 1-1/4". The panel itself is 1-3/4" thick, leaving only 1/2"
thickness for the supporting background. In fact, the actual face of
Jesus is carved in less than 1/2" thickness, including the beard, but
not the crown of thorns.

The paving stones that pass under the figure and the cross had to be
carved in a concave manner in order to allow more thickness for
carving the objects above the stones.

Again, I value your comments and encouragement. Please also feel free
to ask questions.

Blessings and Peace,

Bill
