Subject: [Woodcarver] Who's your favorite carving teacher?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
With Matt's permission, I'm wondering...
"For those of you that have taken various two to five-day seminars, who are your favorite teachers for longer format classes?"
Here's why I'm asking this question. My wife and I just had our Grand Opening for Red Barn Retreats. (www.RedBarnRetreats.com)
I operate www.MyChipCarving.com and teach chip carving retreats while my wife focuses on quilting, scrapbooking, sewing, and other craft retreats.
I am considering expanding the scope of Red Barn Retreats by inviting expert woodcarvers who would teach various styles of woodcarving. I've got chip carving covered but expanding into other areas of woodcarving would allow more people to enjoy the beauty and comfort of Red Barn Retreats while learning more about carving.
When you respond please tell:
Teacher's full name: Chris White
Teacher contact info if you have it: www.jchristopherwhite.com
Carving class(es) you attended: 2006 sculpture carving, flow and movement
Briefly, why he/she is your favorite teacher:
For me Chris White is a Christian and lives his life as such. He is an individual who is a pleasure to be sharing woodcarving with. As for the hands on teaching part, he has an insight into old chunks of wood that just totally amazes me. He sees shapes, birds, fish and animals in wood that I can only hope I can some day also do to a certain extent. His patience is so outstanding and he never makes you feel like you are intruding on his time or another students time. He only takes at most 5 students at one time, so the time he gets to spend with each carver is greatly increased.

Thank you!
Make some chips,
Marty
