Guess I've been lurking long enough down here in
SC since I first joined this list. Saw the "Roll
Call" subject line and figured food must be involved :-).

While I'm still what my father would call a tyro,
I'm doing Swiss chip carvings for close family
for Christmas this year. At least that may keep
my wife from stealing the things I've been practicing on.

Thanks to Marty getting some nice basswood plates
and boxes to me quickly, I've about finished my
first small box with an old English monogram in
the center. The one thing I didn't count on, and
no one warned me about was that there are a lot
more sides to a box than for a small plate or one
flat coaster. Took me about 3 days get this first
one done. I like to draw, so doing the designs is fun. Ornaments next year :-).

My next Christmas project is a box for my
daughter who turns 18 next week. She loves
Capybaras so I'm working a freehand silhouette of
a Capybara as the center of her box. Just hope I
can get it done in time. If I can get that and a
couple of plates done I'll be happy...and tired.

Shawn, I'd love to see a picture of your Celtic
cross and that finish. I've been side tracked for
a few months now learning about Celtic designs
(got to stop buying books) and coming up with
some designs of my own I hope to use.

Ya'll have a Merry Christmas,

Jay Henson - Anderson, SC
