heh there Maura---good on you---suggestions are a plenty--I'd like to make  
just 1 or 2---" give your novitiate students a choice by having at least 6  
different patterns to trace on your blanks--eg--Durers praying hands---at our  
grade 8 student level I give them a choice of 20 pics (class of 18 plus)-FOR YOU 
 6 CHOICES COULD BE MANAGEABLE AND YOU MIGHT HAVE 4 DIFFERENT CARVINGS BEING  
DONE--"but" IT REDUCES COMPETITION and increases interest---good luck and 
have  fun--(2) have GOOD TOOLS for them-- the small flexcut pkg FR 310 is what we 
have  for all our students donated by a benefactor and as well each wears a  
Kevlar glove on non-carving hand(manditory)---warm regards on a snowy
