Hiya!

On my painted knees I always used gesso on the carved, exposed parts leaving the skin natural, otherwise they will soak like a sponge. Then you can use acrylics or oils. After complete drying I spray with laquer.

Anyone have time and/or the inclination to talk about finishing a cypress knee.   Have carved a Father Christmas figure.   Will want to paint it.   If I wet my finger and touch the face,  it become very dark so not sure that linseed oil and then paint is the way to go.   I use this method on basswood and the linseed oil leaves a nice natural skin tone but this will be too dark,  me thinks.

Any way,  there I go thinking again....help or comments appreciated, as always.
