Hi Pat, 

You can go online to technatool which carry a wide variety of styles of chucks, also I so that someone sent you a link to Penn State they do have some good things but be wise sometimes you get what you pay for. I have many different style chucks. Some are threaded some are MT's depends on how big your turning. I would also suggest just like in woodcarving we all have to have lots of toys to play with. So you could go to the AAW (american association of woodturners) which is the home page and find a club near where you live, I would bet that you could find at least one club if not more. 



Turners are always buying and selling toys and that is a good place to maybe pick up used turning items plus ideas. Our clubs are always open to guests just like carvers.  I see that you are wanting a chuck for turning platters, etc for chip carving so you may want to look into oneway's they are a little on the pricey side but only need one hand to use them. You can get them threaded with threaded adapters for all types of lathes or you can get MT's(morse tapers) which fit inside. On that note you can also make MT's out of wood I have several of those and you can also make homemade jigs for holding platters onto the lathe. 



Check out local library, also they usually have good selections of dvd's, books, vhs tapes. If you want more info let me know cause I got lots.

karen . my lathe is an old sears muli-speed with thread count of 16tpi 
 old enought that it is almost as old as i am. lol.
