Hi All,
It seems that it has been pretty quiet on the list lately, but I'm busy
carving right now. I am frantically working on a relief carving of a Great
Blue Heron on a slab of cypress. I want to enter the carving in a local juried
Art Exhibit that could get me some great exposure if accepted. I need to
have it finished by July 8th for the judging process. I have it pretty well
roughed out but that was the easy part. Now I have to get down to the nitty
gritty and start detailing. That is where I am having problems and need
your help and expert guidance. I have encountered several problems and am not
sure which way to go.
First, I plan on painting some of it with acrylics and not being very
knowledgeable on the painting scene, I will need some advice in that area
as to sealing it, color choices, mixing, etc.
Secondly, I haven't done much bird carving and am not sure whether to
burn or carve the feather details
Third, what would be the best way to do the background--smooth it,
stamp it?????
Finally, I goofed up one part and am not sure how to correct it,. The
part in question is the two feathery "doo-dads" that come off the rear portion
of the top of the head. I stupidly removed too much wood in that area and
am not able to carve them in. Should I try to glue a chunk of wood in
that area and then carve it or would it be better to carve two thin strips
and glue them into position? HELP!!!!
I will take some pics of it and put them on my picture trail page
sometime this evening so if you want to see it better, check there later on
tonight.
I know "youse" guys will come through and give me the guidance I need
as you have never let me down in the past. Thanks all and will keep you
posted on the progression.

Been pretty quiet out there. You all must be busy carving. I got up at
6:00 AM and started carving my mini cane segments for the WCI project 2. Mr.
Bloomquist, I hope your carving that cake topper!! :)
