[Woodcarver] wood questions

Dry is one thing, crumbly is another.  You can spray it with 50/50  
water/alcohol.  I have also soaked wood for a few minutes in the kitchen  sink.  
Just enough to penetrate into the top layers.  I don't know if  anything will 
help "crumbly" except for getting a new piece of fresh  basswood.
