Good morning Maura!

I was wondering if soaking it in water would help. Because its so long I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea or not. I might just set it outside now since its raining! I'm not sure what I think would happen if I soaked it or not but I really like how its going and haven't gotten to the point of wanting to start over yet. Thanks for your thoughts! See ya at Cherry Ridge!

Dry is one thing, crumbly is another. You can spray it with 50/50 water/alcohol. I have also soaked wood for a few minutes in the kitchen sink. Just enough to penetrate into the top layers. I don't know if anything will help "crumbly" except for getting a new piece of fresh basswood.
