[Woodcarver] wood questions

If you get it carved, I would treat it with wood hardner before putting the final finish on it to strengthen the wood.

If the basswood is crumbly, you may want to consider how it will hold
up after the carving is done. Will the sign be in a place where it
will be dry and undisturbed? If not, it may not last very long if the
wood is in this poor condition.
