Chris Pye has a very nice newsletter, and his Slipstones are very good at covering various carving topics.
As good as reading about carving can be (I like Pye's books), nothing beats working with a good teacher.
I've been going to the American Woodcarving School in Wayne, NJ for 3 years now.? Learned a lot, and made a lot of friends.

Good Morning Friends in Carving -?
?
I swapped a few emails with former member Elle last night, and it's fairly clear to me we had a case of mismatched expectations. My sense is that she was looking for a newsletter that would present articles about how to carve, and not the sometimes lively flow of message that any mail list is likely to produce. That's fine - a mail list is not for everyone - some folks are just not up the volume of messages.?
?
This experience also suggests I need to perhaps fine-tune the information at carverscompanion.com and on the pairlist site to make it more clear how a mail list functions, what a new member should expect, and how to self-unsubscribe or switch to digest mode.?
?
And now let us move on to other topics - does anyone have a burning woodcarving question for this fine Friday??
?
Matt?
