Corey,

Congrats on the sale. Gotta love those "green ribbons" <G>. Back when I
got started "discretionary funds" were scarce, so it was great when I could
use carving sales to buy tools and wood. I referred to them as "toys
without guilt". still do. I can't quit my day job, but the toys have gotten
bigger, more expensive, there are more carving trips and then there's my
book "habit", so I'm making progress.

Thanks Floyd Jan and Mike, it was a good experience for me and my first
official "Class". Thanks Mike on the bottle stopper, what's even better is
I turned it into 20.00 :)

Corey,

Sounds like a great workshop. You sure came away with a good piece. BTW, I
liked the hillbilly bottle stopper too, and the story that went with it. It
just reinforces the idea that there are "no mistakes, just pattern
alterations" ;-). Nice work on both.

Hello all, hope everyone is having a great weekend. Today at the club we had
Denny Neubauer of Denny Tools teach a class. This was a class on whittling
on a stick, face structure etc. We used only a knife and no other tools. We
all got basswood handled knives to carve a custom handle. Most decided to
carve a practice stick today and take the knife home and carve later. I
worked on a face with Denny. Not only is Denny a great tool maker he is also
a great carver. I enjoyed the class. When I got home I turned my head into a
little mini bust and mounted it on a walnut round I turned on the lathe. The
bust is painted in acrylics and finished with Satin lacquer. You can see
the item at: http://iowacarver.tripod.com/id5.html
Thanks for looking as always!
