I been soooo busy but also getting some carving done. I just started my
second 8-week pottery class. It's really an exciting medium to work in. We
think we have trouble when wood shrinks 2%. Clay typically shrinks 13%, (5%
drying and about 7% in the kiln). Glazing is fun too because what you spray
on doesn't look at all like what it comes out as. Firing cone 10 (2250
degrees F) turns everything into glass. Gaining the skill to throw a pot
takes practice and time. Hand building scluptures with clay is easier. We
are learning both.
My instructor, Steven Hill, is renown in the field of pottery. I'm lucky to
have him as an instructor.
As for carving, I'm in the home stretch on that 5-foot Last Supper and I'm
helping one of my apprentices with a couple of mantels.
My lawn needs mowing and the fruit trees need some attention. Spring is such
a nice time of the year but it's also a busy time of year.
I would like to welcome the new members to this List.
Happy Mothers' Day to all the Mothers on the List.
