Different carvings call for different painting methods, but if I can, I prefer water based finishes due to the low odor and easy clean up.

As for sharpening, I like the methods that are best presented by Everett Ellenwood in his video "Sharpening Simplified". If you are not familiar with this great video, check it out at:
