Hi Chuck and Mike,
That's an great sound you got Chuck. There are not many carvings that we can listen too that sound so good. Thanks for sharing.
Mike, great teaching job and a great project. Any chance that we might get you to teach at the GOW sometime?

Hey Chuck, thanks for the plug. Gotta say though, it's humbling to the teacher when the student exceeds them. both in playing and in construction <G>. You'll have to describe to me what helped the volume like that, so I can use it in future classes. Don't have that problem with my flute classes where we carve them from wood, but that's one of the reasons I enjoy volunteering at the NEWR... every once in a while I teach something that for me is brand new (like female wood spirits or N.A. style flutes from river cane), and get to work the kinks out of it. The other "beny" is that I usually learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
If anyone is familiar with the New England Woodcarvers Retreat, this is one of the classes I was scheduled to teach. Had to cancel this year, but they said they forgave me and have me penciled in for next year. It will definitely be on my list for the next NEWR as well as the Retreat. Using river cane made it possible to teach in a one day class. That idea was thanks to Don Dearolf who attended by N.A. style Flute tuning demo the year before. Like I said. I learn a lot from my students.
Keep on Carvin'

So - I don't pipe up on here very often sitting in lurk mode most of the time. But I wanted to submit a post recommending Mike's NA Flute in bamboo class should he ever offer it again at NEWR. I had the pleasure of being one of Mike's guinea pigs for his first time teaching this class at this last NEWR. Although we ran into some roadblocks trying to get tuning and the online software used to layout the finger holes straight, it was a very enjoyable class and I was very happy with the way my flute turned out. If you're interested I've made a couple posts about it with a YouTube video of me playing it in my blog here: http://woodsmythsmuse.blogspot.com/
In addition, I have a post about the Traditional Woodcarving class my wife Theresa and I took with Maura. Also highly recommended!
Cheers!
ChuckT
