[Woodcarver] Time Machine Journey

Hi Pat,
Thanks for including me in the list, however I don't know if it's deserved. When I was in full swing, making a living at carving, I considered myself as a business man first and a carver second. I recognized there is a big difference between good work and museum quality. Rarely, if ever, have I done what I would consider museum quality work. The work I did, I considered it good quality and I felt gave the customer good value. In my mind, to take that work to museum quality, where everything is as perfect as I could make it, would have required twice as much time and add very little value for my customers'. That is just my philosophy and the way I had to do carving to survive as a business.
You may have noticed that I never enter shows. I feel if I entered something in a show it would have to be up to the museum quality standard, which I didn't have the time and had little desire to do. Now that I retired the carving business I may consider doing some higher quality work but I still don't think I would enter in competition. I think some shows should have a category where you can enter things for show but are not part of the competition, just for show.
Sorry to hear about your surgery on your wrists. I hope everything goes well.

matt. afraid my all time carver i would love to spend a week with learning is still around.
if i could change time and go back 20 years ago. i would love to take lessons and learn from Ivan willock.
to me he is one of the best all around carvers i have ever seen.
so many carvers i have met and admired their works.
but ivan is one of the best. and i admire him and his work.
next on the list would be any one of the cca members.
and joe dillett also.
and t.j. tangerman would be in there also.
but for now i admire all. i have to have surgery for carpel tunnel. so i an not carving right now.
