[Woodcarver] Time Machine Journey

Matt, after initially studying woodworking/woodcarving with the monks while
in high school, I went in the direction of studying commercial art in
college. After that I kind of slid sideways into woodcarving being my
favorite medium, which later became my living. Most of those years I never
had a desire to take classes from anyone until I learned about Ivan
Whillock. It wasn't so much his carving that attracted me to him (of which
his carving is awesome), but his ideas, background and philosophy about art
I wanted to draw upon. I was already in the woodcarving business for many
years but I needed a boost, the kind that feeds the soul and refreshes your
art. I was fortunate to take a bunch of his classes. The setting was very
relaxed with everyone zoned out working on their own thing. It fed my soul
and breathed new life into my art. For me Ivan was the one and I was lucky
enough to do it.

Now I've got that same opportunity, studying under a world-class potter
Steven Hill. He moved to our area a couple of years ago. I discovered him
and haven't stopped taking classes from him. Now I'm throwing more pots then
woodchips.

Moral of the story is never stop learning and feeding the soul.
