[Woodcarver] What is a Carving Club?

Well this is part serious and part not serious...but usually the club will have
an over riding agenda. Working toward an annual show, or classes, or
promotion or community outreach. Having this kind of business requires a
structure of officers and committees. Thus the club is formed based on goals
and a tree of responsibility........now the true but unserious part....take half
a dozen to 10 people and they will do all the work over and over again and
everyone else just rides along and comments (often negatively) about what the
core group is doing. Thus you have a carving club....IMHO...it is always worth
the membership to rub shoulders with other carvers (haven't found one I did not
like), share information on wood sources, new patterns, classes and just
plain gossip.

Open question to all
Many of us carve with some friends at convenient places like senior centers,
etc. with no other purpose then to tell stories and solve the world’s problems.
For purposes of this topic I will call this a Social Group. Sometimes a Social
Group will want to form into a Club. My question is “What are the new things or
behaviors to make this a Club”. There should be a lot of opinions on this and I
want to hear them all.
