i pulled into Townsend, TN around noon on Sunday and looked for Mac Proffit's Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers shop. I finally found by happenstance at the Nawger Nob. I pulled in when I drove behind the main building and saw a building that classes are conducted. Not knowing any better I walked in and there sat Wayne Shinlever and two students working on a project each was doing for a class Wayne was conducting. Soon Mac walked in and was kind enough to open up the store for my wife and I to browse around. I purchased a couple of items and had a great chat with Mac while there only to find out that he knows Rod Wilcox of Wilcox Wood fame in Minong, WI. Our familly has had a retreat west of Minong for nearly 40 years and I go right to Rod's saw mill/warehouse to get wood from him. Small world it is!

Mac's organized a carver's weekend here in Townsend this coming weekend. I'll be headed back to Wisconsin but carvers in this neck of the woods ought to stop in.

It was a great visit and a real pleasure to meet those guys face to face.
