Thanks again Faye, this time for your clear response to my follow-up
question.  And thank you , Ivan, for sharing your experience with the
"sandwiching" technique you observed used in Italy.  Since most of the time
I add color to bark carvings I only want a slightly stained effect, that
might prove very useful to me.  I will do some experimenting with it and
very much appreciate you sharing your experience with us.
