Andrew:

The Dremel unit is pretty light duty to be used for much
sawing,like Donna pointed out they are fairly good at power carving and
have a ton of attachments and I really like mine as well.

As for the scroll vs. band saw debate, if it is being purchased
just for the job of cutting out blanks for carving then I would really
look close at the 10" Craftsman band saw. If you have plenty of time and
are not stacking material and making multiple blanks then a scroll saw
will do the job plus it will give you the option of adding scroll work
to your list of crafting skills. As for the sound difference, unless you
have paper thin walls I would not think the band saw would be any worse
than someone having their TV turned up to loud.
