Thank you Pat, your very kind. I think my art back ground helped me a lot. I
drew a lot as a kid and painted landscapes and such for many years in
oils and acrylics. You have to have a little vision I think to do that...
and by that I mean kind of have a sense of where your going and bringing it
out in paint. That "vision" I think has helped me in woodcarving.
I have to tell you, I had a one shot venture in woodcarving about 23 years
ago. I was getting bored with painting and doing shows and was looking for
another outlet. I bought a E.J. Tangerman book on carving horses and a book
on carving birds. I got a knife and a block of wood. My bird looked like a
turd with wings. I pitched it into the woods and that was the end of that
:) I got into woodworking and did that for many years. I was making boxes
and wanted to do something extra on them so a buddy of mine was doing
woodburning so for Christmas I got a razor tip woodburner in 2008. I went to
WCI and the woodburning forum but got to looking at the carvings and decided
to do give it a try again. Never did do a woodburning other than signing my
carvings... wife was not real happy with me right off.
Funny...you women are... :) I could spend hours making a intricate box with
inlays etc. and my wife would say... oh that's nice. Nice...!!! I worked a
month on that box! Then I started carving and do a stupid little ugly bear
carving or something and she took it to work to show everyone.... go
figure! :)
