 Yes Joe, when my dad had his recent heart attack and open heart surgery, I put the update on facebook every evening.  It actually saved me lots of time, not having to talk to everyone and spend endless hours on the phone.  even with emails, people would reply back asking too many well-meaning questions.  I simply logged in, updated my status and logged out. what a fab way to keep everyone informed and leave me time for the important things.

Thanks Maura, Pat, Byron, Patty and all, about the Facebook information. Since my eye trouble, reading takes longer but I'll give it a go to see what time investment it takes. My brother just passed away on December 21 and Facebook was where the family kept up on his condition. So it seems to have it's rewards for time invested.

Joe and others,   You determine the time involved.  as little as 5 mins just to check up on   what everyone is up to, reply to a few, look at a few pics.     However, endless hours can be wasted if you start playing games, Mindless time   suckers, those damn things.  The greatest benefit to facebook is keeping   up with extended family and old friends that you may otherwise never hear   from.  Biggest carvers benefit: being able to instantly share pics of   your work.  World class carvers on facebook   also.         As for your page getting   cluttered upwith nonsense you don't want to waste time on, first time it comes   up, you block it and never have to deal with it again.
