[Woodcarver] Carving Contest Ideas

Hi Chris,
I would say to keep it simple. Put the focus on the fun rather than the
competition. That's what we're doing at the GOW for the World Cup Speed
Whittling Contest. We're all starting with the same blank (a 2 X 2 X 3
standard cane segment with a 11/16 hole). They make anything they want. It
will be judged on ingenuity and speed. We'll be carving in 4 segments of 15
minutes with a 5 minute break between each segment. The whole idea is to
have them face the audience, tell jokes/stores and entertain while making
the wood chips. Only knives are allowed (as many as they need), no holding
devices allowed and safety gloves optional. They can practice before. The
judge hands out the blocks just before the contest begins. We're going to
have 5 guys hold Jan down so he doesn't finish in the first 5 minutes. We're
going to need a few people to slow Floyd down too. I'll have the home-field
advantage.
