[Woodcarver] Trade blanket questions

Hi Maura,

I have attended many blanket trades. Yes ... let them offer cash!!!
Most people love the cash.

Start with Floyd Rhadigan (or Maura) doing a chant and dancing around
to open the trading. Try to go in a clockwise rotation (just to get
it started) around the group. The first person offers something to
trade. He, she puts it on the blanket. Then .. anyone who wants to
trade puts their offer down on the blanket around the first item. The
Trader will then select the item that they want (no, they don't get
all of them). If they accept the trade, they two folks shake and then
you move on (non winners take their items back). ALSO ... the trader
can tell the people to "sweeten" the pot ..... maybe some will add
cash, maybe another blank etc. The options are: accept, decline,
sweeten ....

Not everyone has to take part ... it is fun to watch.

The only restrictions I have seen are "woodcarving related items
only" ... this is good and bad (you'll have to judge). Most of them
are wide open ... anything can be traded. But if you have someone
that empties their entire garage sale on it ... it can become a bit
too boring. First time most likely people are shy and anything should
be good.

Yes ... cash is good. I have seen people put carvings, knives,
blanks, wood ... everything carving (it is mostly books, tools, wood
etc). Others: clothing (not too popular), kittens (not too
popular), ...... some junk .. but I think those type items will get
weeded out fast. When no one bids then the trader will pull the stuff
back.

Hope this helps!

*** Use it as a fundraiser also. I have seen carvings donated to the
festival during the trader's blanket. Just use it like a live
auction .... festival gets the cash. Normally people bid more when it
is supporting the festival.
