Mornin' friend Will and all,
Thanks for asking. As with all of us who occasionally get a new hand to play in this game of life, I'm playing it as best I can. Doesn't mean I have to like it though. The chemo and radiation treatments (along with a few transfusions) keep me feeling exhausted and weak most of the time so productivity is just about non-existent. It isn't only a physical weakness but a mental and emotional exhaustion as well.
I'm about halfway through the treatment schedules now and on the plus side they say the lung lesion is just about gone. The biggest frustration for me was having to cancel our travel/teaching schedule for most of the year but we do what we gotta do. I look forward to being a cancer survivor! Hopefully we will still be able to participate in a few of the Fall events on our calender but we'll see.
Once the small cell lung cancer situation is resolved we'll be discussing the options for dealing with the kidney cancer. In the meantime I try to do a few things that require a minimum amount of effort since at times it seems even my blood cells "have run back to back marathons in different directions and cannot fathom the slightest notion of taking one more step", as stated by cancer survivor/cartoonist Chris Ayers. I do try to keep myself in the moment since tomorrow will be here soon enough and there is the possibility that something wonderful will occur.
I'd be amiss if I didn't mention my appreciation for the army of friends and family who have rallied around me letting me know that I'm damn sure not alone in this ordeal. The love of family and friends is truly some of the best medicine. Thank you!!
