Sounds like fun to me, Matt, but I'd have to take a break from my retirement in Florida and all the fun I'm having there.  I missed the 50 plus inches of snow they had in Pennsylvania at my house.
Another idea I would offer is to use wooden spoons- they sell sets of three of them in Dollar Tree stores.  The wood is an unknown type to me, but it does carve well.  I often carve Santa figures on them and give/sell them at Christmas, but they would be adaptable for many carving opportunities and subjects.
Just an idea.
