Hi Bing,
Marcia is correct about Poser being a huge learning curve. One great feature is the perspective can be turned off for creating patterns that are in the round. Once the image is created it can be easily rotated from all angles and light sources.
I also have used AutoCAD to create a DXF file into CAD Design 3-D (which is easier then the surface modeling 3-D feature in AutoCAD). Wire frame & Surface modeling is the key for CAD programs (Huge learning curve), where the Poser program is easier because the surface modeling is automatic.

Hi, Bing,
I have Poser 6. I got it with the same intent...to be able to create patterns for carvings. I like the program, but the learning curve is huge. I have used it, but usually find that free hand drawing is faster. Maybe if I had the time to use it every day...or more than once in 8 months, it was faster. I'm really good at mangling and twisting forms with it, though :)

Hi all, I have another question, has anyone used computer generated 3D
programs before? I am looking at making some computer generated
carving patterns. My plan is to provide the 2D patterns and a 3D
computer based option for viewing the completed carving to aid with
carving the pattern. Which should allow the carver to visually see the
complete carving from all directions before and during carving? Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks
Bing
