[Woodcarver] carving paper blocks(bricks)

I prefer hard woods and never really got into bark carving. However I have had occasion to create large patterns (life-size Ronald McDonald being one) that had to be done fast with the lowest cost. I glued up MDF (Medium Density Fiber board). I would equate MDF board as close to Cottonwood Bark and anything else that I've carved. The only slight problem is that the hardness is greater closer to the surfaces so when gluing up thick stock, around the glue joints are slightly harder then the heart of the boards.
MDF boards are cheap and easy to test carve.

Hey Jim,
Over 30 years in this business, Iâ?Tve heard of a lot of things being carved. From toothpicks and matchsticks to bowling balls and bowling pins, but never blocks (bricks) made from newspapers!
Itâ?Ts going to be interesting to see what comes of this conversation.

Anyone out there ever carve blocks or bricks made of newspaper? If so, what has your experience been.
Thanks,
Jim
