[Woodcarver] Carving Clay?

Hi, Bill,

I do a lot of clay modeling to "figure out" a carving and I have my
students do the same. As a matter of fact, I just ordered some plain
old gray clay from Dick Blick and sets of 3 birch clay tools for
Christmas gifts for my students.

I don't use my carving tools with clay. You can use popsicle sticks
if you don't have actual clay tools. The clay model doesn't have
to be detailed at all.

I have some carvings on my blog that show the progression from sketch
to clay model to carving. The clay models are very simple, but help
me to understand what goes where :)

Good luck..they'll have fun!
