[Woodcarver] Question for Faye

Alex, I used the Watco Danish oil to thin with. I used the same oil paints used by artist on canvas.
I was very happy with how this worked and will use it in the future on all my projects. I used this
technique on the little Deacons also and then waxed them with Minwax Paste Finishing Wax. I was
very happy with the look and feel it left on them.
I applied a heavy coat of the WDO and let set for awhile to soak in. Blot off if need and allow to dry
over night. I applied more WDO just over the area I wanted to paint and then painted with thinned
oil paint. apply as many coats as you need to get the look you want. Mine dried over night. Then I
waited about 5-6 days before spraying on 5 or 6 light coats of the finish. I haven't waxed the house
yet but am waiting until I am certain it is tried thoroughly.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more ? if you need to.

I Faye. I re-read you information about finishing the bark carving and have a question. Did you use regular paint thinner to thin the artist oils or did you use the Watco Danish Oil as the medium for thinning the artist oils? I am sure that either would work but I have this idea (probably unfounded), that the watco oil or varnish used might have more drying and binding agents in it that the mineral spirits. What do you think?

I have found that the Krylon and Deft sprays are essentially the same and can be used interchangeably.

I think adding a finish coat of wax is a good idea.

ALEX
