Hey Lil' Joe,

You're right, the GOW starts months before it actually happens. The same
with the International Woodcarvers Congress; the 2011 Congress started the
week after the 2010 event ended!

As soon as we have something put together with Lesley and Jeff, I'll let you
know.

Hey Big Dog,

For me the GOW begins much earlier, as you know from when you plan for
events. That's why I'm missing it already. I've managed to fill that extra
time with a benefit pottery sale for the Open Door (residence for mentally
challenged) on Saturday and some Red Cross training classes and running to
Milwaukee to visit family on Friday. I've also got a benefit going to raffle
a mantel and selling prints of my drawing for the Sandwich Opera House. The
sooner you can let me know the day you want to meet let me know.

It would be awesome of Lesley and Jeff stopped on their way through also. I
plan to be here in the shop on Monday and Tuesday.

Hey Lil' Joe,

Glad to hear you made it back safe and sound. Well . safe anyway. Never
knew you to be too sound. :o)

I know we could probably attribute it to jet lag, but how could you be
missing GOW when it wouldn't have even been started yet??? It was supposed
to start this coming Monday, Oct. 4th.

Speaking of which, did you wade through all your thousands of e-mails and
find some from Lesley and Jeff Wyatt? Since they had their tickets and
bookings locked in, they are still coming to the States. They are supposed
to be arriving in Chicago on Monday. They were hoping to get together with
you and Sharon for a visit then head over this way.

Craig and Elsa were coming down from Minny-Soda the last I heard. Maybe we
can pick a day next week and have a mini-GOW here in Bettendorf.

We'll have to see what all they've got planned.

Good to have you back, my friend. I hope you and Bobby didn't ravage the
European countryside too badly! LOL! vagabonds

Hi Sandie,

Thanks for the update on Ol' Don. It sure sounds like Ol' Don is doing
great. You both are in our prayers.

I'm missing the GOW too. Seems very empty here. Bob Mau and I just got back
from our trip to Europe. We saw great carvings in Germany. We also went to
Austria, France and Switzerland. Bob and his wife shot about 2,000 photos
and I shot 1225. We just couldn't get enough.

Awesome about the photo contest.

_____

Hi everyone,

Since the latest scans show no more lung cancer, the doctors have turned
their attention to preventative care. Don will have 15 sessions of a low
dosage radiation of the brain, starting this week. The doctor says that
there is a brain in there somewhere and that there are usually no side
effects. He said sometimes memory is affected slightly. So now Don has an
excuse if he forgets something. :) This is to help prevent the lung cancer
from reoccuring as it frequently does, especially in the brain since the
brain isn't protected by the chemo treatments.

We also had an appointment to discuss what to do about the kidney cancer.
This specialist said that he can't tell from the pictures if the lesions on
the kidneys are cancerous or not and didn't believe whoever told us that
they were could really tell. So as soon as the brain radiation is done, Don
will have the lesions on both kidneys biopsied to tell for sure. Since the
lesions hadn't changed in size over the summer, there is a very slight
chance that the kidney they thought was cancerous is not cancerous. Keep all
your fingers and toes crossed that the biopsies will prove there is no
cancer. This will be done on October 18th.

Don is feeling much better now that the chemo treatments are done. He has
even been doing some carving this week. He has much better color in his
cheeks even though he still tires quickly. He has joined a local artists
association and is getting some carvings ready for display in the local
gallery. Both of us exhibited some photos in the local photography contest.
Don won two 3rd places and one of mine was chosen for a calendar. Mine was
Autumn in New England - wonder which month they want that for?????

We are missing the GOW this fall. It was necessary to cancel the entire
event for many reasons. We probably would not have been able to be there.
Hopefully this will be back on the schedule next fall. We hope to make
Huntsville and Dayton in November but those will depend on whether the
kidney surgery is necessary.

Hugs to all and thanks for the prayers. Your support really helps. Loved
getting a call from the Woodbutcher yesterday.

Sandie
