Thanks, Mike. It was a fun project and your directions were easy to follow 
thanks to the step-by-step photos. I hadn't done a project like this since a 
chip-carved icicle a few years ago, and it was nice to be led through a project 
for a change.

I benefited from the photos of the painting process too. I used a different 
under-painting on the coat (more burnt sienna than yellow ochre) but I would not 
have thought about doing it at all without seeing your example.
Altogether a fine project- and I'm looking forward to your next article-

I liked Mike Bloomquist's article on the Santa in the current Carving Magazine 
that I decided to make one. He asked for photos if I did do that and I though 
some of you would like to see it too. I followed his excellent instructions 
(almost) exactly, and that made it an easy project.
