[Woodcarver] Honing compound?

Brain matter, Patti, brain matter is what’s supposed to be between one’s two ears. But in the case of some woodcarvin’ folks I’ve run across in the last 30 years, that is somewhat questionable. :o)
If all else fails, you can spit on your strop! Many years ago, one good ol’ boy at a seminar picked up his strop and spit on it before rubbing some compound on it. I kinda looked surprised and asked him why he did that. “Well, son,” he said, “that makes the compound stick to the strop a whole lot better. Been doin’ that since my grandpappy taught me how when I was just a little squirt.” He appeared to be in his late 80’s at the time. I guess that why he called me “son”.
I never tried that technique myself, but he sure had really sharp tools! LOL!

Jan, How do you get the stuff between your two ears out to use for compound? Some folks have sawdust in there...what is between your ears?

Hey Sherm,
A chunk of compound ain’t gonna teach you to sharpen any better. It’s what’s between your two ears that will make you sharpen better! :o)
It’s mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it don’t matter. LOL!
