Hi Sweet Sue,

Here is a link to the Wood Carving Illustrated Message Board that discusses the project. On the bottom of the page on the Message Board is an attachment for a PDF file of what the squares should be.

http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/features/charity-quilt-to-benefit-japan-relief.html

There are 1/8” holes that are supposed to be drilled in the corners. I’m assuming the holes will be used to tack or screw the squares onto a backer board to make up the quilts. The number and size of the quilts will eventually be determined by the number of squares that Bob Duncan from WCI receives.

I would think the artist should sign the piece. Since only the front will be showing, that would be the place to sign it.

Hiya Larry,

Wow! What a great article.

I'd love to get involved. Hardest part will be deciding what to carve. I've heard of this type of thing, but this will be my first quilting square. Are we supposed to initial or sign it? Front or back? Date it?

How do they put the squares together - glue them to a big piece of wood as a backing ... or staple the sides together? Generally, how big is one quilt?

Larry, thanks so much for letting us know about this! It's something woodcarvers can do to help those less fortunate then ourselves. I'll start tomorrow.

Love to Carol.

Peace darlin',

Susan.

Hello folks,

Some of you who belong to the Wood Carving Illustrated Message Board have
heard of this project. Bob Duncan from WCI has put together a project where
carvers from everywhere are sending in carved quilt squares (4" x 4" x 1/2"
thick) that will eventually be put together in a number of large quilt
carvings. They will be then used as a fund-raiser for the victims of the
great tragedy the hit Japan.

Our local club jumped on the bandwagon and decided to get involved in the
project. Here is a link to a story ran in our local paper, the Quad-City
Times, this morning. It made the front page with two large pictures. What
a great thing to wake up and see!

If you're interested in getting involved with the project, I'm sure Bob
would love to hear from you. He can be reached at:
