Although several of the book covers show Harry with a wand in his left hand,
Rowling apparently wrote otherwise   "The best evidence is book 1 p83 US
hardback: harry states to mr olivander that he is right handed when buying
his wand."  


So if Rowling is right (and she should know), then the carving is correct
with the wand in the right hand. .

OMG!  You're right!  Now I realize why it looked odd when Harry was squared
off with Malfoy in the wand duel.  Straight up John... you have a day job in
forensics, don't you?  

Hey Matt, got another mug?  I'll spring for this one.  It'll teach me not to

Good Evening Carvers Everywhere -

I've got a whole pile of freshly minted WOM/W3E/List mugs here at
home, one of which will go to the winner of the latest WOM contest -
except that we don't yet have a winner.

You may recall that the contest involved Mike Bloomquist's article
about his trip to Saint-Jean-Port-Joli.  The task that will earn the
winner a brand new mug is to discover and report on the small research
error Mike noted in an otherwise excellent and well-executed carving.

Here's a hint: the sharp-eyed reader will observe that the research
error is quite evident in one of the photos that are included in the
article.
