Larry- I'm really looking forward to the show and classes this year. So many
exciting opportunities that just don't come around to Lytton Springs, Texas. It
is a long trip for me but it will be worth it to see Peter Benson and his
netsuke- a favorite form for me, and Cadawas' carving should be a lesson in
'gettin' 'er done- since I'm slow as molasses. Another biggie for me will be to
meet the judge this year. Will Chau Pham have some of his carvings on display?
His work is fantastic.

Not to mention the possibility of getting the week at the John C. Campbell
school. Will that be an auction item?
This will be the highlight of my carving year-

Hey Lil’ Joe,

You are absolutely right, the International Woodcarvers Congress is shaping up
to be another egg-citing event like it has been for the past 44 years. Besides
our vast array of exceptionally qualified instructors teaching 1, 2, 3 and 5 day
classes, we will have our usual Judges Critique Sessions on Saturday and Sunday,
June 18 and 19. These sessions have proven to be the highlight of the show
every year that we’ve had them. It enables the exhibitors, visiting carvers and
the public to sit and listen to why the judges made the decisions that they
did. More information on the competition and show can be found at:
www.awcltd.org .

One of the most egg-citing aspects of the show this year is having Eliodoro (JR)
Cadawas carve and finish a Last Supper scene during the 4 days that the show is
open for viewing. The piece is going to be around 32” X 16”. For those of you
who don’t know about “JR”, he is an artist who resides in Chicago and is
originally from the Philippines. He is a well known chef in his home land who
has received numerous awards for his intricate fruit and vegetable carvings. He
has even developed a line of carving tools just for that purpose. He is
currently in the process of developing woodcarving tools in order to provide
jobs for folks in the Philippines. His carvings out of his studio in Chicago
are heavily slanted toward religious themes. You would not believe how fast and
efficient a carver he is without seeing him in action. Upon completion of the
Last Supper carving, it will be going up for auction toward the end of the
Congress on Sunday afternoon, June 19.

Sorry I got so far off track in regard to your request for some goose eggs. I
will turn your request over to Carol to be sure it gets done. You know how my
brain gets scrambled at times. :o)

Hey Big Dog,
I thought you may have given up on getting caught up.
I got your wonderful Congress Newsletter. You sure got another great show in the
making. Also a great bunch of instructors. The Congress Show is the best.
I read about the Egg-citing Challenge. I don't have any goose eggs. I got a lot
of them for grades in school but I never kept them. I would like to order about
a dozen and I'll hand them out to our cub members? We should be able to come up
with something Egg-citing.
