Our club just completed a polar bear with Debbi Edwards. I believe that she used Clean Strip Wood Bleach as well. It worked great. I did not do an animal with her but used it on a couple of snowmen ornaments with good results.

Hi Joe -
I have been using the “Klean-Strip†Wood Bleach, which is a two part solution mix and covers 15-20 sq. ft. in this package.
When using on butternut wood use a fine brush and apply sparingly. I rarely need to apply a second time, as is recommended
on the box. I believe I bought this package at the Ace Hardware Store. This stuff never evaporates and last for years with good
results.

Just completed this relief carving of the "Life's Tempestuous Sea" in butternut. The sails are beached for contrast. Happy Easter to all in the carving world.

Hi Ralph,
Is there a trick bleaching butternut? I tried the commercial wood bleach on butternut and it turned black. What type of bleach did you use?
By the way, nice job on the carving.
