SAally,
Iowa is still southeast of Michigan if you count the UP as part of Michigan. I know some of the people in lower MI don't count it...

Gene,
It's hard to believe but, Bettendorf, Iowa is not that far south from me. (laughing) It lies at 41.526 latitude and I'm at 42.575 Latitude. I don't know how geography changes with age. When I was a little girl, it seemed that Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota (all northern border states) had ALL of the other states along a central line running south of them. All of a sudden, with age, Bettendorf, Iowa is west of Michigan, not southwest. It also seemed the Great Mississippi ran down the center of the US. Now it's more east of center.
I'm a little like Chris H. When you get on the other side of the big river, you might as well see Crazy Horse, the Big Sur, Mt. Shasta ...you know.
Temps this am was -12F. Doesn't feel that cold though. We have no wind. Actually, it was rather nice shoveling out today. All vehicles started except one.
Best,
Sally
