[Woodcarver] Is this a scam???

It sounds like a link farm to me. The idea is to boost their Google rating
by having lots of web sites link to them. The more ethical ones would
reciprocate, by adding a link back to your site. Google has always worked
on the idea that if a site is good, people will link to it, so they use the
number of links to a site to decide which sites should go to the top of the
list.
Link farms aren't exactly a scam, but they aren't very legitimate either.
Google is on to them, and has been for years. Google considers them kind of
like spam, and they don't count towards a site's link count. They don't
work anymore. But some people keep trying.
