Hello everyone,

As a lot of you know, Denny Neubauer, owner and maker of "Denny Knives",
retired and sold his business to Mike Shipley as of July 1, 2011. Denny
worked with Mike for over 2 1/2 years grooming him to continue to make the
line of tools with the highest quality standards that has been done for
years.

A whole lot of carvers have been touched in one way or another by Denny over
the years, whether through his tools, his carving and teaching, or just by
knowing him. Below you will read a letter we received from one of Denny's
close friends, Art Mann. He and his club are trying to put together a
tribute to Denny to celebrate his many years of contributions to the carving
community. If you're so inclined, please take advantage of this opportunity
to recognized our good friend, Denny Neubauer.

Thanks for your time.

Dear Carol and Larry,

Things in life keep changing! I started carving about 12 years ago.
A class with Harley Refsal changed my life forever.
Being from central Iowa, I joined the Mid Iowa Woodcarvers Club.
There I met Denny Neubauer. I watched him grow a strong business.
He has been a good friend, mentor and benefactor to me and the club.
Denny is moving soon to Illinois to be closer to his sons family
and be the "Grandpa just down the street".

We will miss him! The business is in great hands with Mike Shipley!

We have a small fun show in Ames, Iowa at the Reiman Gardens.
This year our ADVENTURES IN WOOD will be on May 5th from
9:00 AM untill 4:00 PM. (You are certainly invited.)
( I will send a copy of our show flier when it is available.)
We hope to present friendship canes with segments from anyone's
who's life and carving have been influenced by Denny's friendship,
knives, carvings or his fight with Parkinson's Disease. We are thinking
of segments approximately 2" x 2" x 3" with a 5/8" diameter
hole from one of the 2x2 ends to the other 2x2 end. Please make sure to

Mark the segments so we know who carved them.

( He knows we want him back for the show and hopes to be here
but won't commit at this time and he does not know about the canes. )

In any event we will construct the canes before that date and present
it to him then if he is able to come, or will get the canes to him shortly
thereafter.
I would ask that segments arrive at my home by May 1st.

I hope that any carvers that appreciate what Denny has done
for woodcarvers and woodcarving will be able to participate in this project.
Vicki and Phil Bishop are already on board!

Sincerely,
Art Mann
