[Woodcarver] Promises ... Promises ...

Hey Big Dog,

At Carv-Fest, I got some of John Dunkel's new (MX) buffing compound. I've been using it since August and like it very much. I'm hoping you'll have it in your new catalogue. The main reason that I like it, because it's a little dryer then the others and doesn't stick to the edge which means you don't have to scrape it off your tools. It also is aggressive and leaves a nice edge. John came up with a good product.

How do you keep your catalogue from becoming a 300 page book with all the new products out there?

Hey Jersey Tom,

There is so much involved with re-doing the catalogue that it wouldn't be easy to code something like that.

What I need to do, and Carol said we ARE going to do it this time around, is to keep abreast of new products. Take the pictures as new items are added and temporarily lay them out where they will end up in the remake. That way when it's "new catalogue time", all we have to do is nip and tuck and get it done a whole lot quicker.

Larry,

What is it that you need to get the catalog
printed and why couldn't a programmer somewhere
code something to take what you've got and create
what you need...? Maybe it wouldn't be perfect
but shining up something 95% done gotta be better
than building it from scratch.

Tom (nj) ;--)

wish i was a better PC programmer, but I ain't :-(

So, print a copy from your website and have that published.
If that is possible.

Hey Steve,

Great idea . that's what we call our "website"! :o)

www.thewoodcraftshop.com We are also working very hard to keep it updated and to add items to it almost daily.

A lot of our customers are seasoned citizens who don't have or want a computer. Also, a lot of them that do still enjoy the tactile experience of paging through a paper catalogue.

Hey Big Puppy,
Why don't you just put the new catalog on line?
You can save a lot on postage and printing.
And, you can update it anytime you want.

Just an idea.

Hey Charley,

Good to hear from you. Glad to hear you're back to carving.

I've completely run out of our #607 print catalogue, but I do have some copies on a CD for the computer.

Just between you and me, rumor has it that the catalogue that's been promised for the last 2 1/2 years is coming along quite well and might make a great Valentine's Day gift! :o)

I'll get you updated on the list for the new one.

Let me know if you want one of the CDs.

Excellent idea, Steve. Do you think we would be able to convince Sir Richard to swim over and take part?

I have tried some genuine moonshine and I can unequivocally say it is genuinely nasty stuff!!! LOL!

And a fine job you are doing Larry. Sorry to hear you will not be making the Olympics but as an alternative I would Humbly propose a Carving get together of a TN Moonshiner. After all Cosby, TN is the Moonshine Capital of the World. True to life sites and samples should result in many great carvings.

Unfortunately Sir Richard, I won't be attending the Olympics this year. The main event I would excel in has yet to be approved as an Olympic sport.

I have taken quite a few Gold medals in what is known as the "BS Hurl". It is very similar to the competitions they have in Texas and Oklahoma known as "Cow Chip Tossing", but instead of using desiccated bovine excrement one uses words.

Larry, what can I say. Your apology is so fulsome and so generous and I could no more take offence at your frivolous essay than fly, whisky-fuelled or no. A chacun son gout, as our brandy-producing friends say; perhaps you have never tried the real Mackay, or MacAllan for that matter. As you are sure to be taking part in the Olympics in London later this year, should you extend your visit to my neck of the misty woods, I'd be more than happy to discuss the matter at length. We have several establishments well stocked with reference material close at hand. That goes for WB Jan too. Is there an olie bollen throwing event?
