Bob, check your machine for viruses...

I suggest using the following free tools:
CCLEAN.EXE (piriform.com)
Malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org)
defraggler (piriform.com)
fully patch your machine (microsoft)
install PSI (secunia.com)

If you want to do an "offline" scan, get a jump drive 1GB or larger and 
download Windows Defender offline wizard package and it will create a 
bootable jump drive, then you boot off that drive and scan your computer 
"offline".
