Joe,
I'll be at the International Woodcarvers' Congress in Maquoketa, IA by Sunday, and I'll be teaching all week. It is a fantastic venue and I am proud to be amongst such super people. Wait until you see my wren/hand carving- it is the best thing I've ever done and I hope it does well.
I taught at Carve-Fest for 6 years and I'd still be doing it if the IWC and it were not so far away. The people are super, both the students and the Whillocks who run the seminars. Definitely worth attending.
North Texas Woodcarvers in Burleson, TX in September will round out this year, and the Coastal Bend Woodcarvers' Show and Seminars in February will start the next year.
No rest for the wicked.
You are right that we owe a huge thanks to the groups who organize and run these venues. Without them we would be hacking away at hunks of balsa with X-Acto knives. That is what I did until I started attending workshops and learning better tools and techniques. I don't know how many classes I've taken over the past 17 years, maybe 50, and I've learned a lot from each one. Now I am teaching, and still learning a lot.
See you in Iowa! (PS- anyone else from the group- please identify yourself to me at my teaching station- I would love to say 'hi' to some of the people I've just 'met' online.)

>Summer brings us some great woodcarving learning and
social events such as Evart, Congress and Carv-Fest. I'm hoping to make it
to Congress and I'll be teaching at Carv-Fest. I was just wondering who was
taking advantage of these or other events like these? I was looking over the
Congress flyer. Wow, a great line-up of instructors. Thanks to all you
organizers who put these events on for us.
