Hey Jan,

John gave me a sharpening tip about using a soft buffing wheel, with no
compound, for the final sharpening step. It seemed to make the difference
from very sharp to scary sharp. I'm sure John's right because I can feel the
difference.

What I'm trying to do is see the difference on the cutting edge. I think I
may have a way to view less then 0.1 micron. I'm trying to calibrate a
microscope so I can determine actual size so I can tell what I'm looking at.
Different lighting schemes make a big difference is how big those scratches
appear because of the reflective qualities of the steel. Once I know what
I'm looking at, I'll run some tests. I hope to show the results after each
sharpening step and the results using different compounds under a controlled
test.

If I come up with something useful I'll let you know.
