LOVE the Christmas star ornament Joe! Thanks a bunch. Have been making them out of butternut and they are quite pretty and quick to do. If you use a little thicker wood and drill a small opening in the center for a candle, you could place them on your table for the holidays. Thanks for sharing!

Hi fellow carvers,
I'm told that Christmas is coming. I've got a pattern for the Christmas ornament that I will be teaching tomorrow night at our carving club meeting. I'm guessing that most of you will not be able to make our club meeting in Sandwich Illinois tomorrow so I've posted the pattern and step by step instructions in my Webshots album below. Open my link labeled Webshots below and go to my first album titled Christmas Star Pattern. All you need is a 3 1/2 inch square by 1/2 inch thick piece of wood and a sharp knife. You can download the pattern to print it. There is another step by step pattern from last year labeled Christmas Bell Pattern. If you carve fast like Woodbutcher Jan, you should be able to do both of those ornaments in 16 minutes 27 seconds. And if you got the Woodbutcher knife maybe faster.
I thought that this star pattern would be a great exercise for the beginner carver as well as the more experienced, because each point of the star poses different angles to the grain so the way each point is cut is different then the other points.
Have fun.
