[Woodcarver] question

I am a new carver i just started this year, i want to go to the seminar in 2013 but i need to get some tools like a dust extractor but i don't want to waste money what do you all recommend, your thoughts on any tool will be appreciated i am interested in all the different types of carvings thank you for your time.
