Hello All,
Right now I'm trying to get things back to normal after a long, 4000+
mile road trip that included two art festivals. I did the Penrod Art Festival
in the Indianapolis area and then headed to Worcester, MA for their annual
StART Festival. Both festivals were well run and well attended but the
sales were not good. Barely made my booth fees in Indianapolis and bombed in
Worcester. Got a million words of praise for my stuff, but not much in sales.
None of my carvings or furniture items sold but I did sell a bunch of
$15.00 walking sticks and a few higher priced canes and sticks. The other items
I sold were simple wood disc coasters. On the positive side, I did get a
lot of exposure and gave out a bunch of business cards. The experience and
knowledge I gained are priceless and well worth the effort expended but
unfortunately, that doesn't pay the bills. Will take a good hard look at the
festival scene to decide if I still want to do them. They are a lot of work
and can get very stressful. Plus, pulling a 12 foot trailer all over the
country isn't much fun.
I am looking at another source of income from "raw wood" sales. Just
bought a small chainsaw mill (Logosol M-5) and am ready to start milling
lumber. I have a local homeowner that will be taking down two 40 foot tall
eucalyptus trees and offered me the wood. Not sure of the "lumber" value of
eucalyptus but will check it out. Anyone out there have any experience with
eucalyptus? Not sure how it carves or if it is a good turning wood. Will
surely find out soon.
Take care everyone and keep on carvin'!!!
ED
